TIMES WE ARE IN. In a surprise move last week, the Reserve Bank slashed the Official Cash Rate (OCR) to 1%, supposedly to stimulate New Zealand's flagging economy. The rate cut was expected, however only by .25% points to 1.25%. Cutting by half a percentage point has only occurred three times here since its introduction in 1999; after the September 2001 US terror attacks, the 2008 GFC and the Christchurch earthquakes.
CHANGES TO TRUST LAW
The new Trusts Bill was introduced to New Zealand Parliament in late 2017 and is expected to become law later in 2019, with major implications for trustees.
ACC SUBSIDISES CRUSH PROTECTION DEVICES (CPDs) FOR FARMERS

ACC via WorkSafe will contribute $180 per Crush Protection Device (CPD), up to a maximum of two per business.
PROFILE: CHRISTINE CRAIG Originally from Wellington, Christine completed her degree and CA qualification at Massey in Palmerston North. She married a farmer and raised her 3 children on a farm near Dannevirke in the southern Hawkes Bay. Christine operated an accounting practice in both Dannevirke and Waipukurau before opening Rural Accountants in Whakatane with her daughter Shannon in November 2017. Her experience centres around working with farmers, succession planning and small business in a rural setting.
Christine is heavily involved in the kiwifruit industry alongside her husband, Ian Craig, who is well-known in Opotiki as co-founder of OPAC, Chairman of Opotiki's Whakatohea Mussel Farm, as well involvement in the kiwifruit industry. Together they have interests in dairy, sheep & beef, apples, hops, mussels and kiwifruit.
Her passion is ensuring clients have the correct structure for their businesses, and have their succession planning in place sooner rather than later. This gives far more options than if it is left too late.
Christine is the founding Director of Rural Accountants.
